Arcana means a deep secret. A mystery.

A deck of tarot cards is divided into two types: the Major and Minor Arcana.

Tarot reading is used by people seeking insight about those around them and for self-reflection. It comes from an innate curiosity about the human experience and desire for greater connection.

To us, Arcana is that “Theatre Magic” which suspends reality, plunges audiences into a shared experience, and transports imaginations through live storytelling.

Here at Theatre Arcana, we believe there is always more to mine from a story. More secrets to uncover, more hidden desires, fears, and mysteries inspired by the human experience. With every story, whether it is a fresh draft or full production, we as an ensemble pledge to remain curious and open to the arcane elements of each story we share. The more specificity we find, the greater success our plays will have in lessening the distance between hearts.

To tell stories that lessen the distance between hearts and be the go-to company for accessible theatrical experiences, industry-leading artist development, and enriching theatre education for the city of Chicago.

Our Vision

We are building a company on the shoulders of giants. With Chicago’s legacy of great work in mind, we want to help establish Chicago Storefront Theatre as the center of exciting new work in the theatre world and to build a space where artists can be molded into tomorrow’s world shakers.

To grow this tree, we need deep roots and a well-tended garden. Thus, we envision for our future:

An artist-focused business model that allows theatre to be made and sustains those making it.
